For those who love sandwiches

Soft Shell Crab Sandwich

These delicious soft shell crabs come from the Chesapeake region. In Baltimore, they are better known as “soft crabs.” To make these surprisingly simple sandwiches, you will need to go to your fishmonger and ask for your crabs to be cleaned. This is a simple task of snipping and clipping, but I prefer to have someone else do it for me. The following recipe will make 4 sandwiches since eating these fabulous sandwiches alone would be a crime.

Softshell Crab

  • In a bowl, mix eggs, milk and beer.
  • On a plate, mix flour, crushed red pepper and Old Bay seasoning.
  • Dip soft shell crabs into batter and then cover with the flour mixture.
  • Place crabs into the hot oil and fry for 3 minutes on each side or until crispy.
  • Put a sandwich together with the toasted white bread, tartar sauce, lettuce leaves and crab.
