What can I say? When I think of going to a Jewish deli and getting a little bit of heaven ,  I think of this classic Reuben . Just to give you a little bit of food history; the Reuben was developed in a Jewish Deli in the Lower East Side of NYC. There is nothing better that these mouthwatering flavors.

What you will need:

Grilled rye bread
Sauerkraut (drained very well)
Swiss cheese
Corned beef
Russian dressing


How to Prepare:

  • Begin by grilling the corned beef just to warm it up.
  • Butter 2 slices of bread and put them buttered side down into a pan.
  • Place a slice of cheese of each slice of bread.
  • When the cheese is partly melted, put the corned beef on one slice of bread with cheese.
  • Put ½ tablespoon of Russian dressing on top of corned beef.
  • Put sauerkraut on next. (remember: drain this well)
  • When bread is golden brown, place other slice of bread on top of sandwich and press down.
  • Remove from pan, slice carefully and serve.

Hint: To make a Rachel sandwich, substitute coleslaw instead of sauerkraut. Either way you will enjoy a wonderful sandwich. Don’t forget to add your potato salad or macaroni salad with chips and pickles.
