For those who love sandwiches

Just thinking about this sandwich makes me yearn for the warm streets of Miami, Florida. This sandwich is similar to a regular ham and cheese sandwich with a few twists to make it special. Cuban sandwiches are grilled with a sandwich press; however, if you don’t have a sandwich press, you can use a waffle iron instead.

What you will need:

1 loaf of Italian or French bread
Yellow mustard
¼ pound baked ham, thinly sliced
¼ pound roast pork, thinly sliced
¼ pound provolone cheese, thinly sliced
Dill pickles slices
1 tablespoon butter

How to prepare:

  • Slice the bread horizontally leaving one edge in tact
  • Spread mustard on both sides of the bread
  • Layer the ham, roast pork , cheese and pickles
  • Bring the top and bottom of the roll together
  • Heat your sandwich press
  • Butter each side of the press.
  • Place the sandwich in the press and press down until the cheese is melted and the bread is flat and browned ( approx. 10 minutes)
Hint:  Cole slaw and chips go nicely with this sandwich.
*Best eaten when warm.
